Annual Sea Services Awards Banquet
On Thursday, May 11, 2017, the Camden-Kings Bay Navy League Council hosted our Annual Sea Services Awards Banquet at the TRIPLEX on board Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. We honored the 32 top Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and a Marine stationed at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay and at the Coast Guard's Maritime Safety & Security Team in St Marys as the 2016 Sailors/Marine/Coast Guardsmen of the Year.
This event recognizes the honorees for their accomplishments last year, and is an opportunity for our entire community to show our respect and appreciation for their hard work, dedication and service to our nation and our community. Our special guest speaker at the Banquet was Congressman Buddy Carter (R, GA-1).
In addition to honoring these outstanding young men and women, Council President Sam Colville presented the Navy League Scroll of Honor to Cheryl Aston, Council Vice President for Sea Services and Family Support, Navy League National Director, and South Atlantic Coast Region Vice President Sea Services.
The Scroll of Honor is the second highest award of the Navy League on the national level, and the highest award on the region, area, and council levels. It is presented to recognize outstanding contributions in furtherance of the Navy League Mission. In addition to her other duties and responsibilities, Cheryl also serves as Chairperson of our Annual Sea Services Awards Banquet.
Thanks to all of our members and Community Sponsors who made this evening so memorable for the honorees. You can view the printed program here.

As we do every year, we are asking Navy League members to sponsor a Sailor, Coast Guardsman or Marine of the Year for the evening. Sponsors will participate in the presentation of gifts and commemorative plaque to the honoree and his/her spouse. Sponsors will also be included in a group photo with the honoree, spouse, command representatives, and our guest speaker. The cost of a Sponsorship is $50.00. Please contact Cheryl Aston at 882-2967 to inquire about commands available for sponsorship. Sponsorship is fully tax deductible.
Even if you are unable to attend the Banquet, we encourage and would welcome your sponsorship of either a deployed or transferred Sailor of the Year.
Sponsoring an individual Sailor, Coast Guardsman or Marine isn't the only way to support this event and help recognize these outstanding young men and women. We are also asking our members and the community for their help to fill the gift bags presented to each honoree. In addition to cash donations, if you own a business, please consider donating gift certificates, items from your business and other in-kind contributions of goods and services for the honorees (we would need 32 items). All cash donations go directly to purchasing plaques, gifts and other recognition for the honorees and their spouses. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
