Grayson Roach awarded Halsey Family Foundation 2017 Youth Scholarship

Grayson A. Roach of St. Marys, a 2017 graduate of Camden County High School, has been awarded the Camden - Kings Bay Council's Halsey Family Foundation 2017 Youth Scholarship. Grayson, shown above with Council President Sam Colville and Council Vice President for Youth Programs Barbara Johns, is the son of Kevin and Diane Roach. CDR Kevin Roach is active duty USN currently assigned to Southern Command in Tampa, Florida.

Grayson is also the winner of Wendy's 2017 High School Heisman Award for CCHS, and was a four year member of Camden County High School's soccer team. Grayson will continue his studies in the Fall at Valdosta State University.

This year's Youth Scholarship is named for Council members Jack and Sandy Halsey and The Halsey Family Foundation in recognition of  their outstanding support of our Council's Youth Programs.

The annual Youth Scholarship is open to graduating seniors in the NJROTC program and dependents of Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine service members (active duty or retired) attending Camden County High School, and to graduating seniors (from any high school) active in the Kings Bay Division of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant who submits the best original Essay. This year, the Essay topic was “What will be the impact on the sea services over the next four years of the new President and a majority in both houses of congress being of the same party?” Essays were graded by member of the Board of Directors based on grammar, content, originality, persuasiveness, and passion for the topic.
