PARTNERS FIGHTING TERRORISM

 “Hands Across The Ocean”

The September 11th terrorist attack on the WTC has brought many countries together in a unified front to rid the world of these terrible acts.  Leading this effort is our long-term alliance with Great Britain.  The entire British nation has shown unselfish and unwavering support for American efforts to fight terrorism.

In light of this strong bond and continuing hospitality on both sides of the Atlantic, the Navy League of Camden-Kings Bay, the Osprey Cove clubs and land owners hosted a golf tournament to recognize our British friends and to further support our strong relationship.  Taking advantage of a visit to Kings-Bay by the HMS Vanguard and her British crew, we scheduled a tournament between the “Brits” and the “Yanks” at Osprey Cove on Sunday, the 25th of November and a replay on Monday, the 3rd of December.

To ensure the success of this event, the Navy League and event partners recognized the need for community and business support by individuals and organizations within the cities of St. Marys and Kingsland.  We also asked and received support from Osprey Cove Inc. and its employees, Osprey Cove residents and organizations for this event.  We are grateful to the sponsoring organizations and businesses, which include:

·        First National Bank

·        Osprey Cove Men’s And Women’s Golf Association

·        Sheila’s Hallmark

·        Coastal Bank Of Georgia

·        Radio Shack Of St. Marys

·        Soncel Construction

·        Cumberland National Bank

·        Osprey Cove Homeowners

·        Southeastern Bank

·        U.S. Navy

We want to thank all those that participated in the tournament and the rematch, the donation of golf plays; food, cash, time and effort displayed a great round of support for the British Royal Navy.  This event was a huge success even though the “Brits” beat the “Yanks” in both plays.

I especially want to thank our event team; Carol Rubus who coordinated the entire event with the help of Jim Keating.  A special thanks also goes to the Osprey Cove staff for preparation and serving of food, refreshments, and managing and supporting the golf tournament with excellence.  And let’s remember to support our business sponsors.
