2024 Strategic Planning Activity

YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE

The C-KB Council Board of Directors will do some strategic planning during the July-August break from our normal activities.  We envision three working groups:  Programs, Governance and Financial.  The Working groups will meet in July as organized by the Group chairperson, and report to the Board and interested members in August.  The Board will use the recommendations as we plan the Sept-June activities of the Council, including the next election in December.

The Missions of the Navy League as stated by the Navy League of the United States web site are:

  1. To enhance the morale of active-duty personnel and their families;
  2. To inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services;
  3. To support youth through programs such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Junior ROTC and Young Marines that expose young people to the values of our sea services.

The task for the Strategic Planning Groups is to assess whether our current activities are properly aligned with these goals, determine if the Council should have additional goals, and recommend changes and actions as needed.  Topics for the Groups to address are described below, and will be modified by the Groups as they do their work:

Programs:  Are the dinner meetings alone sufficient to meet the goals of the Council; are there ways to expand our visibility into and support of the local active duty personnel and their families; How can we become more effective in educating the local public on the importance of strong sea services; Is financial support of Youth Programs enough; How might we tailor the topics of our dinner meetings to align with the broader goals; What are the pro/con of meeting on-base and off-base; How can we/should we broaden the participation in our events beyond our membership; What should we do to increase our Community Affiliate, individual and family memberships?

Governance:  Do the current Bylaws meet the needs of the newly incorporated Kanden-Kings Bay Council; Will the current Board structure and election process support the goals and meet the challenges that will be identified by the Programs and Financial working groups; Should we have an annual meeting outside the one held with the Toys-for-Tots luncheon;  Are there things we should do differently as an incorporated  entity (e.g, reporting requirements, taxes, etc.)?

Financial:  Should we use a budget to help guide program and fundraising activities; Is the current approach to fund-raising sufficient to meet potential program goals; Is the current dues structure sufficient; Should increased Community Affiliate membership be viewed as a financial priority; should increased individual and family memberships be viewed as a financial priority?
