After he completed recruit basic training in Cape May, NJ, he was assigned to the deck department of Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) BLUEFIN where he earned his first coxswain certification on the cutter’s small boat.

He departed in late 2005 to Boatswain’s Mate “A” School in Yorktown, VA where he studied navigation and seamanship. Graduating in March 2006, he advanced to Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class and reported to Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST) Kings Bay, GA.

There, he earned his Tactical Coxswain and Boarding Officer certifications, deploying throughout the continental U.S conducting the Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS) mission and advancing to Second Class.

He departed in 2009 and transferred to CGC BLUEFIN, once again, where he advanced to First Class Petty Officer and assumed the duties of the Operations Petty Officer.

In 2011, he received orders and returned to MSST Kings Bay where he certified as Deployable Team Leader and led PWCS missions around the country.
